He held her hand
every day in this land.
He took her shopping
hours and hours without stopping.
He never complained
but attentively remained.
He always opened her car door
for his desire was her, she was adored.
Sixty years later he still took her on dates
and they still could relate.
They traveled from place to place
new adventures they would embrace.
Each week on Sunday, they sat in the pew
they believed God’s word was True.
He always intentionally pursued his wife
because he promised he would for the rest of his life.
She got ill and slowly her memory began fading
names, dates and more, the illness kept invading.
He would remind her over and over
patiently, loving not losing composure.
She began to weaken more and more
he knew God was standing at the door.
He did not want her to leave
but knew he could no longer cleave.
Sixty five years later, almost not able to withstand,
he released his hand from her hand.
He can now let go because he knows:
She now sits with her Father above
safe in the arms of no greater Love.
Bill at 91, still served and loved
as he found his way without his beloved.
A part of his heart is broken
though he knows he is not alone.
Each day he arises to serve his Father
knowing He holds his beloved, one of God’s daughter.
Now seven months later
he is with the Creator.
He is home, he is done
faithfully with The Son
