Feet Fitted For Service

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “YOUR GOD REIGNS”. Isaiah 52:7.

While I was in Brazil last week, I saw lots of feet sharing Christ. Not until Friday night did the significance of all these feet impact me. The doors opened to the community and a night of celebration began. What a night of praise, honor to God, fellowship and tears of joy. Later in the service, the local church brought the men and women from their choir. They filled the room with songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. I was sitting on the front row and the choir literally stood touching my knees. So, instead of looking up and staring at them, I chose to look at their feet.

Within two minutes, my eyes were welling with tears. You see, the feet before me were all sizes. They were not fancy feet, by American standards. Almost all of them were covered in the red dirt of the land. Some were old and you could see the veins sticking out. Others were in mary janes, low heels, open toed, work boots, dress shoes and even a pair of flip flops. As I sat staring at these feet, God told me I will use your feet if you are willing. It does not matter how your feet look, if they have been hurt, broken, toe nails painted perfectly or they are worn out. I will be your feet and they will be used to share my Truth, promises, hope, joy, love if you just say yes. You don’t have to go across the world, I can use you just where you are.

Throughout the week we had people going into schools to share about Jesus. We walked the streets going home to home sharing about Jesus. We were never turned away and sometimes invited in to sit and talk. As we shared Christ, doors continually opened and hearts received. I felt a freedom I have not felt in a long time. Back home we are not allowed to talk about God in schools, people don’t open doors and invite in homes like I experienced in Brazil. This is where God grabbed my heart on Friday night while looking at the feet of these people singing joyfully about God. No longer did I see sizes, colors, old or young feet. I saw and felt joy, hope, peace; I saw Jesus in the feet of these faithful men and women. In that moment, God said to me, “Mindy, I will open doors, I will open hearts, not you. I just need your feet”. Romans 10:15 tells us “And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written (from Isaiah 52) ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news’.”

God is sending us to our neighbors, gyms, restaurants, grocery stores, communities, cities, states and world. We have been called, each of us where we are with the gifts He has given. If you say yes, He will use you. Will you embrace this today and say yes? It does not matter the age, style, size, health of your feet.  Paul tells us in Romans 1:14, “I am both obligated to the Greeks and non-Greeks, both the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome. I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” Paul wanted the world to know Jesus Christ. He recognized that everyone needs Jesus. Paul prayed for God to take his feet places so He could share the freedom of Christ with others. Paul knew God called Him and fitted his feet for service.

Pray with me today for God to take our feet to the lost (maybe a neighbor), the lonely (sitting next to you in church), the hurting (working out next to you), the chained and burdened of this world. May He use our feet to bring His joy, love, peace and hope to a lost world. We are told to put on the armor of the Lord in Ephesians 6 and verse 14 tells us to stand firm. It talks about putting a belt, breastplate “and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” When God calls you to walk, even where you might not want to, so you can share about Him, what are you going to say? He has fitted your feet for service, how will you respond today?
